WELCOME TO MISSION HILL, BUT FIRST…
Whether you are looking for some answers in life, a church home, or simply a place to visit, we welcome you to Mission Hill Church. We understand that it can be intimidating to visit a place for the first time, so it is our desire to help answer any questions that you might have, before you even step foot onto our campus.
Feel free to navigate through our website and email us with any questions. It is also obvious that a website can’t answer every question you might have, so feel free to contact our office for a personal conversation before your first visit.
WHO IS JESUS?
About Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
PASTORS & DIRECTORS
Meet The Staff
PAUL PURVIS | Lead Pastor
Pastor Paul Purvis was born in Hartsville, South Carolina. He was raised in a strong Christian home and at the age of seven understood the need for a personal, life-long relationship with Jesus Christ. During his junior year at Furman University, he responded to God’s vocational call on his life. Although he had served in various church and ministry roles prior to that time, it was after beginning the preparations for a career in politics and law that he realized that God had greater plans for him. The driving passion of his life is to glorify God through loving Jesus and leading the local church to reach its community and the world by providing a ministry that is real, relevant, and relational.
Pastor Paul has been married to Kimberly since 1993 and together they have 4 boys: Micah, Caleb, Noah, and Luke. They have also been blessed to adopt their daughter, Aniyah.
WHAT TO EXPECT
At Mission Hill, you can expect…
A service designed to help you connect with God and learn His truth. Our services are typically 1 hour and 15 minutes long.
A casual, comfortable environment. You are surrounded by people who love God and love you. Whether you’re wearing a suit and tie or shorts and flip-flops, you are welcome here.
A chance to respond to any spiritual decision you may have made. If you have prayed to begin a lifelong relationship with Christ, or you would like to begin the process of becoming a member, you can let us know by coming forward to talk to one of our pastors, or marking your decision on your Communication Card and leaving it in your seat. You may also come forward for any spiritual counsel or prayer.
To minimize distractions during worship, we ask that you remain seated once the pastor begins his message. However, if you have a child that becomes fussy, we do ask that you kindly consider other worshippers and step out of the service until your child has calmed down. One of our ushers would gladly guide you to our Family Room where you can watch a live feed of the service with your little one. We also have a phenomenal Nursery & Preschool Ministry that is ready and willing to minister to your child while you enjoy the service. Thank you for helping us make a great worship experience for everyone.

WHAT WE BELIEVE
Mission Hill Church is founded on a core of beliefs derived from, and supported by, the Bible. These statements are not inclusive of every area of theology (theology means the study of God and religious doctrines) and life, but they are those beliefs that we deem central and essential to someone who is a Christian. Other doctrines and teachings that impact life, but which are not fully supported by the Bible, we leave to the individual’s interpretation.
In essential beliefs – we have unity.
“There is one body and one Spirit….one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of us all…” “Live in harmony with one another….” Romans 12:16
In non-essential beliefs – we have liberty (grace).
“Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters….Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls….So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God….So whatever you believe about these things, keep between yourself and God.” Romans 14:1, 4, 12, 22
In all our beliefs – we show charity.
“If I….can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13:2
We are excited that you are interested in baptism. We believe that baptism is an important step of obedience for every person who has accepted Christ as his or her Savior.
These pages have been designed to explain baptism and the necessary steps to be baptized at an upcoming service. If at any point you have questions, you can contact a pastor in the church office at (813) 988-1138. We consider it a privilege to walk with you as you take this next step on your spiritual journey.
